Julissa Martinez pled guilty to driving while drunk and causing a traffic accident that killed Mary Ann DeLazzer, a Bradenton soup kitchen manager. The accident happened the day after Thanksgiving in 2008. The plea by the 21-year-old will mean she will most likely spend at least the next four years in jail for the DUI manslaughter conviction according to a story reported on The Bradenton Herald’s website. The sentence will be handed down by Manatee County judge Diana Moreland.
DeLazzer was 77 at the time of the fatal accident and she was on the way to the soup kitchen at the time where she had fed the homeless for two decades. According to the officers on the scene at the time Martinez took a breath test which registered at 0.18 and she allegedly giggled throughout her field sobriety tests. DeLazzer is set to be honored by Mayor Wayne Poston for her years of service to the city.
