A police officer with advanced training in DUI arrests is under fire for false arrests by more than 20 people who he arrested according to an in-depth story by ABC 7 News. A Chicago police officer is the target of a Federal Civil suit that claims the veteran officer targeted gay men and arrested them for bogus DUIs. The suit alleges that the officer makes false arrest and then perjures himself in court in order to generate more than 300 DUI arrests per year.
Officer Richard Fiorito has received an award from MADD for his high rate of DUI arrests but due to complaints against him Chicago police placed a video surveillance system in his police cruiser. Video obtained by ABC7 shows that the officer’s reports did not match what the video showed on numerous arrests. In one case he said the defendant was so intoxicated he couldn’t perform field sobriety tests yet on video the defendant is perfectly executing all the tests.
