There is a popular campaign about buzzed driving being the same as drunk driving but I don’t think the campaign was aimed at this Manatee County DUI arrest. According to a story in the Bradenton Herald a man was arrested for DUI and when he started to resist he was buzzed with a stun gun, which apparently had no effect on the 31-year-old arrestee.
Jason Waldron was arrested for DUI by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office late Tuesday evening. Deputies had Waldron at the District 2 parking lot where they were switching handcuffs. It was at this point that Waldron began to resist and he was tasered. According to the Bradenton Herald story he was “drive stunned”. Whatever a drive stun is, it didn’t have an effect on Waldron. The deputies were able to get the situation under control and proceed with Waldron’s DUI arrest.
Waldron added a resisting arrest charge to his DUI charge and was booked into jail. At last word he was still in jail where he was being held on $1,250 bail. There was no mention of any of the details that led to Waldron’s arrest. The article does not discuss field sobriety tests, driving pattern, the initial police contact or any breath tests.
Waldron is facing numerous penalties if found guilty of a Florida DUI. If this is a first offense, probation is a likely penalty. If he receives DUI probation, he would be required to report to a probation officer monthly. DUI school is a very likely possibility as well if convicted. That is a class that is 12 hours and also includes a psycho-social evaluation. Waldron could also face up to six months in county jail for a first time DUI conviction. That doesn’t even to take into account the court costs and fines that go along with a DUI conviction.
