People are continually surprised when bicyclists, lawn mower riders and others not in cars are arrested for DUI. While it may seem odd to many, you can be charged with driving under the influence even if what you are driving is a bicycle. Just ask Jeremy Bowen of Brooksville who was charged with DUI last week.
Bowen, according to a report on HernandoToday.com, was picked up by a taxi at a bar and dropped off at a gas station. At that point he hopped on his bicycle and took off down the middle of the street. The taxi driver who dropped him off, called the sheriff. Bowen allegedly blew a .234 and .239 on the breathalyzer. That is almost three times the legal limit in Florida. Bowen admitted to being drunk upon his arrest and said he had consumed five beers.
