A fight between Robert Corbin and his girlfriend at a Pasco County storage center led to Corbin’s arrest for DUI. The 55-year-old was cuffed and taken away based on the fact that police said he was drunk and jumped off his motorcycle to run towards his girlfriend. In the police report deputies claimed the motorcycle was on its side, keys in the ignition and running as reported on TampaBay.com. Corbin claimed the motorcycle was not even working and he had not rode the bike in months.
Three deputies showed up to testify that Corbin fled a running motorcycle the only problem was that a defense expert testified it was impossible. Defense attorneys called a Harley-Davidson salesman to testify that a motorcycle laying on its side after just one second automatically shuts off. It is a safety feature that was included on the motorcycle Corbin had allegedly been riding while intoxicated. Corbin admitted to having drunk beer and he had his license suspended for a previous DUI and had a domestic battery charge on his record as well. The testimony of the motorcycle expert was powerful enough to sway jurors who found him not guilty despite the sworn testimony of three officers.
