A Pinellas County judge has sentenced a Clearwater man to 15 years for a drunk driving accident that claimed the life of an elderly man crossing a street on a mobility scooter. Angus T. Davis III pled guilty to DUI manslaughter,which is second DUI conviction. He received his first DUI in 1992.
The DUI manslaughter charges stem from a December 2007 accident where David ran over a decorated World War II Army veteran. Jack Schaffer was crossing a Clearwater street on his mobility scooter when Davis hit him. The 84-year-old man participated in the invasion of Normandy. After the crash, Davis registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.348.
