It has been more than three years since two young women were killed by a man police believe was a drunk driver. The state of Florida will try to prove that to a south Florida jury this week. The trial of Edwin Perez on the charge of DUI manslaughter gets under way in a West Palm Beach courtroom with opening statements today.
Perez is accused of running a red light at the intersection of I-95 and Palmetto Park Road and crashing into a black Mercedes with four young women inside. Two of the passengers died and the other two suffered serious injuries. Perez allegedly admitted to sharing two pitchers of beer with a friend before the crash.
