According to a story on the website for BayNews9 an Orlando lawmaker is going to try and slow down the number of teenagers that are involved in drunk driving accidents by placing stiffer penalties on those who sell alcohol to minors. Orlando Rep. Scoot Randolph is proposing a bill that would punish anyone who sells alcohol to a minor for a second time with a $1000 fine and up to a year in jail.
Randolph is fighting for the bill in honor of two Brevard County teens who left a party where alcohol was present and died driving home. According to the story, drivers under the age of 21 account for 10% of all of Florida’s alcohol-related crashes. A State House committee approved the bill Wednesday.
